I am buying snow chains for a Hymer 584, 3.9 ton. I was going to buy
one set for the front drive but have been advised to buy two sets for all tyres, to prevent rear end slide. Any advice on that would be appreciated. |

Well the nearest I can come to that is that Land Rover recommend that if you have one set of chains you put them on the rear wheels of their 4x4s With chains on the front only there may be a risk that under heavy braking the rear might attempt to overtake the front, but I can't speak from experience. -- hugh |

Any advice on that would be appreciated. Would seem sensible though not strictly necessary. On a rear wheel drive it certainly would be sensible for obvious reasons http://www.snowchains.co.uk/main/qanda.html |

Also LR up until recently only allowed rear chains on the Defender. Even now only LR approved type should be fitted on the front. Going back to the OPs question I think it is one of those areas where FUD prevails and no-one seems to have practical experience. So either play safe and buy 2 sets or suck it and see - and come back and tell us how you get on. -- hugh |
