Default Site Electrics???

Hi
I'm a bit new to the camping and plan to go away this summer to scotland
with the family.
Could someone tell me about site electrics, what kind of appliances can I
use, is there a wattage limit?

John

Normally the site hook-ups in the UK are 6 or 8A, but some have
different ratings. You will need to ask the site you intend to camp at.
If you cannot find out the rating assume 6A untill you find out otherwise.

As for appliances, 8A is just under 2000 W, so you need to look at the
rating lables on the appliances you wish to run and make sure the total
of all the aplliances that will be run at the same time is less than
2000 W. 6A is about 1500W for reference.

Most campsites I have used have had a minimum of 10 amps supply, in the UK.
In Italy you are lucky to get more than 3 amp!! Most Club site have 16
amps. To work out what you can use try this formula:- to work out number of
watts available take voltage = 230 and multiply by amps, so a 6 amp supply
would allow 1380 watts. Every electrical appliance has ,marked on it the
consumption in watts. The average domestic kettle is 2200 watts so you would
need a 10 amp supply to use it. (2200 divide by 230 = 9.56 amps) If all you
want to use is a charger for the phone, a radio or fridge then even a couple
of amps supply would be enough.
