Help, I realise this may be slightly OT for this newsgroup, but thought that
you may all be best to ask. I have an Ifor Williams Flat bed trailer which
is built on a KNOTT chassis. Does anyone know if you can fit an ALKO 2700
stabiliser coupling to this trailer, and if so is it easy to do??

TIA,

Dave

As long as you tow with a ball hitch and not a pin coupler you should be able to
fit an ALKO 2700 provided you purchase a longer neck ball hitch. Most ALKO
couplings of this type need increased distance behind the hitch mount so as not
to restrict the turning circle of the outfit.

Cheers, Peter.

Many thanks. I am aware of the extended tow bar on vehicle (as it happens I
tow with a Range Rover Td6 Vogue, that has a Swan Neck type, and also pull
an Abbey 415Gts that has an ALKO on it) The reason I wish to change is that
I cannot be bothered to Degrease the towbar in between towing the other
trailer!!
Do u know if the ALKO is a straight swop for the KNOTT coupling head?

Hi Dave,

Ifor Williams actually build their own chassis but I'm being pedantic as
they do currently use Knott Brakes and Couplings.

No AKS stabiliser should be fitted to a coupling where the head is free to
rotate through 360 deg. However, you should be okay on this score. As long
as the coupling is not a 3,500 KG model, it should fit without difficulty.

Regards

It should be as the Alko comes with two or three sleeve spacers should there be
a difference in the shaft diameter and instructions aplenty.

All the best., Peter.

I don't have the figures to hand but ALKO specify the size of trailer towbar
their couplings fit so a check of the ALKO box at a dealers will give you
the information. ALKO do state that their couplings can only be fitted to a
trailer towbar that does not rotate.

Thanks Tony. I did not phrase my OP very well. I know Ifor W makes own
chassis but how my words came out looked like they used KNOTT (who only make
the brakes and coupling bits!).

Thanks,
Dave
