Default Throttle Boby Overhaul - Talbot Express / J5 / C25 / Ducato

I'm trying to locate a overhaul kit for the throttle body on a
Solex PBISA 16 carb fitted to a 1991 2.0 Talbot Express. The
bushes for the throttle spindle are quite worn. No luck at
Peugeot (only a new carb at 350) or trying to find one on-line.
Does anyone know of a supplier or have experience of a
replacement carb that I would fit?

Thank you.

look pretty good to me, I have no experience of them, aside from their very
informative pages, but have a Fiat Ducato with similar/same carb and was
contemplating a rebuild kit. Let me know how you get on.

Contacted them and got the following informative (but
unfortunately not useful) response:

IM SORRY THESE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN AVAILABLE ...EVER......YOU
USED TO BE ABLE TO BUY THE BOTTOM SECTION WITH THE SPINDLE ...UP
TO AROUND 1994..THEN IT WOULD HAVE COST YOU 76.00......ALL THE
PARTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SECTION HAVE NEVER BEEN AVAILABLE
SEPERATELY........IM AFAID THE ONLY SOLUTION IS A NEW CARB ...I
HAVE IN STOCK..PRICE 175.00.....
REGARDS ERIC

A strip of the carb shows it wasn't that bad actually. Also the
throttle shaft runs straight in the carb body without bushes at
all. If the wear does get bad and become a problem I'll take it
to a precision engineers (lots in the yellow pages) and get them
to drill out the throttle body and fit metal bushes of some sort.
Can't image it'll cost that much.

Best wishes,
Steve

think you may find that the very same carb is fitted to similar year
of Peugeot 205 with the 2.0l engine. I believe there may also be a
weber direct replacement with no mods for this too. Guess you better
start trawling for a breaker.

Yes, thanks for the info. I was looking at a picture of a 205/AX
Carb recently and it was indeed a 34 Solex but a 12 not a 16.
Several external differences. Not to say it might not fit though,
albeit with some rejetting (even the Peugeot/Talbot's move from
8:1 to 8.8:1 cr required some rejetting). Anyway, as I said in
the other post it turns out not to be a problem with my current
carb. If/when it becomes an issue I'll probably opt for the long
term solution of having an engineering company reem it out and
fit metal bushes. I don't want to risk purchasing another [email protected]
Solex. I haven't been able to find a straight Weber replacement
(yet) and expect this will be rather costly as well. Worth
looking for info at least.

Hopefully these postings will be of use to anyone who does have a
problem with this engine/carb combo.
