Default Camper Cars

Out driving today I caught sight of a camper car, It sort of looked
like a Sierra front end with a 2 person camper on it, the cabin
overhung the drivers area.

I have seen a small Citroen that was smaller but would like to find
out what other makes types there are.

Anyone here know of such things that could point me in the right
direction ?

Thanks

I think you might be referring to demountables. These are camping units
that fit onto the bed of a pickup. http://www.nsr-leisure.co.uk/campers.htm
is one site that specialises in such units - but searching the 'net for
"Demountable Camper" will fetch up a lot more. The Sierra front end was
probably a P100 pickup.

I suspect the Citroen was a Romahome or similar motorhome conversion rather
than a demountable (if only because I don't know of any small Citroen
pickups).

HTH,

What you saw might have been a Starcraft.

Fibreglass conversion built over a Ford car or pickup underpinnings
(Cortina, then Sierra was a regular choice).

I think they were generally sold as a self-build kit, and there was an
owners club around at one time.

The conversion used to overhang the windscreen at the front.

Judicious use of Google pulls up a few pictures an example being
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/photo...arcraft_48.htm though
this is pre-Sierra, the bodywork is typical.

Don't think it was that big and had as much 'over hang'
