Bit O/T tax class on imported campers.
I know one or two people have posted about this before so may be relevant
mainly to anyone using a Japanese or American vehicle registered as a
I will use a Mazda Bongo as an example but this probably applies to all
imports. If a vehicle is brought in to the UK and registered as a
camper/motorhome then its exempt from SVA/ESVA and just has to pass an MOT.
If its not classed as a camper then it is subject to SVA and has the CO'2
emissions on the log book.
What this means is that when it comes to the road tax hikes in the near
future you could have 2 identical Mazda Bongo's but the one with some sort
of kitchen in the rear will cost half the cost to tax than the one with no

campers/Motorhomes but on the Mazda Bongo club website there is uproar for
all those who will be paying a lot more next year when the prices go up and
there vehicles are SVA'd and registered as people carriers.
