Default 'appen it'a all arse.....

[From The Grimmclogge Clarion' (Sept 2003) ]

A proposal by Edinburgh based Pink Triangle Leisure Ltd, t transform a
Grimmclogge caravan site into the UK's first 'Gay Only' theme park, was the
occasion for acrimonious exchanges at last night's Town Hall planning
meeting (writes E.N.N. correspondent, Ivor Gottergrudge)

Welcoming the proposal, Labour member Ms Wendy ('trendy' Wendy) Marx (Lab m.
E.) spoke of her personal shame that homosexuals had for so long, "Been
denied the opportunity to enjoy facilities designed around the needs and
demands of their valid lifestyle", adding, "It need hardly be said that we
should all enthusiastically embrace diversity"

In reply, Councillor Fred Martinet, (Con Grimmclogge W.) stated that, in his
own view, "It were a bleedin' disgrace t' turn yon municipal site owner t'
arse bandits!", candid remarks, that made the Chamber gasp - and made Ms
Marx appear to faint in horror.

Recovering herself with a great effort, Ms Marx began a shrill denunciation
of Councillor Martinet - accusing him of rampant homophobia, and of
representing the cruel forces of reaction and bigotry. "I go so far as to
call Councillor Martinet's words a 'Hate Crime!", she announced, through
flecks of indignant spittle.

Intervening for the Liberal Democrats, Mrs Beatrice Homely (Lib-Dem
Grimmclogge S) briefly brought the debate to a puzzled silence as she spoke
of the happy memories she had of the Municipal caravan site - telling
Members that she first met her husband there in 1966, when he was cutting
the grass under the auspices of the Council Parks Dept.

Brusquely interrupting her, Councillor Martinet reminded the Chamber that it
was a previous initiative by Councillor Marx that had led to the withdrawal
of surveillance patrols from the Boroughs public conveniences.

"The plain fact is!" roared Councillor Martinet,” That to go into t' Foundry
Park toilets is practically an invitation for one of these bleeding people
t' bugger you!" " 'Appen most of the Member's here haven't seen t' place,
lately, fer themselves!", he continued impassionedly, well, you can tek it
from me that there are more bloody holes in the cubicle walls than a block
of Swiss Cheese! - and toilet's is swarmin' wi' ‘omosexuals from time as
they're opened 'till time as they're locked up again!" Councillor, Mrs
Beatrice Homely enquired vaguely at this point to ask what the purpose of
the cubicle holes were - only to be given a withering stare by Councillor
Martinet who demanded,“’aving given ‘em the toilets, will this Committee now
surrender ‘t caravan park. an’all!? (The Meeting Was Adjourned)

Surely? To 'deny' the use of any facility such as a camp ground, park area
or caravan site, to a particular group or designation of person/s, or for
that matter, to 'reserve' a facility for use only by any certain grouping or
type of persons is DISCRIMINATION; of the worst kind?
Now, if I am at such a site and indulge in behaviour not in accordance with
the rules; such as no nude sunbathing, not urinating in public, not emitting
large clouds of noxious smoke from my barbecue etc. then would it not be
fair and within rights of the owner/operator to have me leave. Either
voluntarily or if necessary with police assistance. It's probably in the
fine print of my rental receipt, is it not?
Terry.
