Has anyone tried one of these manually operated caravan movers? Are they any
good as a cheaper alternative to a motor mover?

NO!!

There is a MK2 which may be better but the original breaks easily

It isn't as efficient as a motor mover but if you're not impatient it works
well.

I think they look awful, purple isn't my favourite colour! But that's not
important in the Great Scheme of Things.

Not a Hitchdrive, but:

I have a manually operated Brunawheel which works quite well. It does
much the same thing being crank driven, but the single wheel has a big
pneumatic tyre for grip, and the wheel is chain driven.

It's probably quite old, but is quite strong.
