tyres this time...
In an earlier contribution to this discussion,
does it make a difference what type of tyre I use ?
can I use normal car tyres (165x13) or is there a tyre specifically
for caravans, box trailers etc. ?
Tyres have speed and load rating codes - and you *must* use tyres which are
suitable for the weight being carried, bearing in mind that the whole weight
of the caravan is carried by only *two* wheels.
This is all explained in
For a given size of tyre, you will sometimes see caravan tyres described as
reinforced, 6-ply rated - or even 8-ply rated. It is illegal to use tyres
which have an inadequate load rating.
At the same time, whilst it is legal to use tyres with a more than adequate
load rating (e.g. 8-ply) this is undesirable because the tyres are stiffer
and will shake the caravan structure more than slightly softer tyres would.
Try to find what tyres were originally fitted to your van, and match the
rating as closely as possible.
