I occasionally need to take my laptop with me and access online via my
most phones these days can act like a modem and connect via the infrared
ports on the phone and laptop.
Most mobile phone companies include the required software on a CD-ROM that
comes with the phone or it is accessible from their websites
the process is as follows
you switch on the infrared facility of both the phone and the laptop.
in the dial up connection on the laptop select the modem , if software
installed your make and model of phone should appear as a modem
press connect and your off, you will see the phone dial the number and away
One word of advice is get an isp with a normal std code for the dial up (not
an 0845 or 0870 etc). this means that when you dial out (if your mobile
phone network / tariff allow it ) the call can be part of your free minutes
