Default Mayday, what's missing.

With my CC renewal is a leaflet on thier Mayday service.
I have extention to my Saga car insurance in the region of 70 for full
cover with Green Flag, incs. Europe and Home call etc. I think I got the
lot.

In past I have shopped around and thought to get this with others would cost
well over 100, AA, Rac etc.

Now CC says they are Comprehensive 60-50, also the AA are 82 option 200,
RAC are 78 roadside/recovery.

Any comments?
Before November I will have to get the full detail of these 3 covers it
seems.

The Mayday says it is double journey cover and exclusive to them. But in
fact, a long time ago maybe when Green Flag was National Breakdown, they
recovered me to caravan site and then recovered us at the end of the
holiday.

My CC mayday costs me 108 a year which covers everything apart from
European cover which I do not want. This fee is made up of ( I think )
56 cover on one car any driver, 28 personal cover so that whatever
car either of us in the car is covered we have two cars and the
personal cover is as cheap as second car cover when my son lived at
home his was the first car and out two were covered by the personal
cover. Then we also pay 28 for at home cover so that wherever we are
the cars are covered, not just when we are more than a couple of miles
from home. Whne my two sons were at home it got used on a number of
times but since then it has not been used at all
The 9 yr old Volvo I have had for 4.5 years and the only replacements
have been one switch and one light bulb plus two tyres and ordinary
service items, it's never broken down. The 9 year old Toyota I have
had for three years and have replaced two tyres and service items with
no breakdowns . I can not praise either car too highly.

I can't add up. The two 28 should have been two 24.

Do check with your recovery club that they still offer the double
recovery
RAC is supposed to but I could never get an answer on the phone from
them
so stayed with Mayday. Its no good finding out the hard way.
I know i was offered a recovery club from my old job but it did not have
the double recovery so it was usless to me. I have never had to be
double
recovered but its is always there if need be.

One other point the time I was recoverd from Moffat, north of the
boarder
the recovery trucks tow ball was a bit high and the rear of the caravan
hit the floor causeing minor scrapping (luckily) on the way home.
This can happen with any tow company as a lot of them cover a few clubs.

The VW passat was less then two years old fully serviced but the dealer
was
rubbish and told me the auto box was not overheating it was just "oil
mist"
comming out of the gear box breather!!!, every other mechanic and gear
box
specialist all said it was overheating. So it went and I now have an
Auto
FreeLander which has been excellent. Thirsty but excellent

Default Mayday, what's missing.

Hi guys

I am New to caravaning and slowly finding out the hard way, but reading this
news group is giving me I great in sight.

On your subject on Recovery, I was a member of RAC and paying monthly and
then I enquired through mayday when I got my club mag through.

I found out that I was paying more money with the rac and a further charge
would be needed for the caravan and there again they will tow you to the
nearest garage.

Anyway I joined Mayday and they take me and setup to a garage of my choice
with upto 5 passangers. and the great thing I found out was I am with
Barclays Bank and I have had an additions account for some time and by
joining Mayday I was intitaled to a further discount on the total cost.

And yes I have made use of the service and the time of recovery was spot on
and they txt me with updates while I was waiting on the side of the motoway
very helpful compaired to AA and RAC. that take longer to attend and then
you have a long wait for the right recovery truck to arrive. because a
transit is not big enough to tow a 4X4 or caravan.

So Mayday to compare with what I have at 70'ish would be 108. So my
orginal thinking appears still to be current.
A lot to me just to get a guarrentted double recovery if ever required.
If a person is younger than Saga will cover it seems to me Mayday is the

one
to go for.

A tip if car on recovery vechicle and caravan being towed, ensure recovery
driver does not exceed 60mph on the motorway your caravan tyres might not
stay on or might burst.

I ended up with caravan on truck and broken car being towed, after caravan
tyre came off.

Of the three insurance Companies I asked for a Quote Saga was the dearest.
Morethan (Sun Alliance) quoted me the best price on fully comp. and included
breakdown, home start and delivery to destination or home in the case of
breakdown....well chuffed.

True Saga do not quote me the cheapest, but they Price Match.
I have Saga at the cost E-sure quoted.

And a good deal that is, I saved the best part of 90 on my insurance
doing this, plus another 70 off the wifes.
