Default Audi A6 towbar wiring probs

Has anyone come across a problem with an Audi A6 2.5d 1999 with towbar
wiring problems?

The bar was fitted a while ago and not used till now. The socket is a 13
pin.

The problem starts as the blown bulb failure light showing on dash but all
lights on car and van seem ok. Next the central locking fails, then when
indicating left or right all 4 on car and van flash. This fault then
remains. The Audi garage says the computer lists 39 faults on the central
locking.

The bar, unfortunatly was an after market fitted by a local garage, but that
was a year ago and the garage is at a loss as to what is wrong. The car is
in with Audi and they are stuck.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

I would have wired your vehicle with a full set of by-pass relays. With
these, the towbar electrics draws less than 40 milliamps on each lighting
circuit and is not detected by the car's computer system. It sounds very
much as if they are missing.

Regards

Could be another one of the pin 11 problems. It seems that the wiring leads to
an "earth missing" fault if the overriding instructions have not been carried
out. Check back in the archive as it was mentioned a couple of weeks ago (on
this newsgroup).

Cheers, Peter.
