Default Instability on Overtaking

In my experience the buffeting you receive is all to do with the shape and
speed of the other vehicle. After very many years and many miles of
experience I have given up trying to identify the vehicle that is going to
give me a problem! Sometimes it is smaller box vans, sometimes huge lorries.
It seems to be all to do with their design and the "bow wave" or "wake" they
create. I would be very uncertain about steering "into" or "away" from the
turbulence. I prefer to be confident about my loading/nose weight/ 'van to
tug ratio and then hang on tight!
