Default 12S wiring

I have just had a towbar and wiring fitted to my car and I presume that the
12S wiring has been done to the current specification. My caravan has pre
1998 wiring. Is it safe to connect up without making modifications. As far
as I can see, the fridge will continue to earth via pin 3 and I may not be
able to charge the battery on the move as pin 4 is not used for this purpose
anymore. Are there any other issues? To spread the load is it advisable to
link the 2 earth connections in the caravan so that the extra earth
connection (pin 7) can take some of the load.
